Travis Killmer

AIA

An Idaho native, Travis earned his Master of Architecture from the University of Idaho, where he developed a strong foundation in hand drawing, sketching, and architectural representation. His education emphasized the value of communicating ideas through both analytical thinking and artistic exploration—an approach that continues to inform his work today. After graduating in 2013, Travis relocated to Ketchum to begin his professional career and joined Williams | Partners Architects in 2016. The firm’s collaborative culture, thoughtful design process, and commitment to place-based architecture closely aligned with his own design philosophy and aspirations. In recognition of his contributions to the practice and its continued growth, Travis became a Partner at Williams | Partners in 2021.

Travis approaches architecture as a holistic process, embracing every phase of a project from early concept development through construction. His experience spans a diverse range of project types, including custom residences, residential renovations, multifamily developments, commercial tenant improvements, and conceptual mixed-use design. He believes that successful projects emerge from strong collaboration among clients, consultants, contractors, and designers, and that a cohesive team ultimately produces more thoughtful, efficient, and enduring architecture.

Central to Travis’s design philosophy is an interest in the dialogue between old and new. He is drawn to architecture that respects the lessons of traditional building while embracing contemporary forms, technologies, and ways of living. His work often explores how familiar materials and vernacular influences can be reinterpreted to create architecture that feels both timeless and current. Equally important is his fascination with scale—how a building can feel intimate and welcoming at the human level while responding to the grandeur of the surrounding landscape. Through careful attention to proportion, layering, and materiality, he seeks to create spaces that are warm, enduring, and deeply connected to their context.

Since moving to Ketchum, Travis has found the Wood River Valley to be both professionally inspiring and personally rewarding. He has played a key role in numerous award-winning projects throughout the region and remains actively engaged in the architectural profession. In 2014, one of his hand-rendered architectural drawings was selected for inclusion in the Design Communication Association’s juried exhibition, reflecting his continued appreciation for the craft of architectural representation and visual storytelling.

Outside the office, Travis values the connection between the built environment and the natural landscape. Whether walking to work, skiing from town, or exploring Idaho’s mountains and rivers, he finds continual inspiration in the region’s unique balance of community, architecture, and wilderness. This connection to place informs both his personal life and his design work, reinforcing his belief that architecture should enrich the experience of everyday life while fostering a meaningful relationship with the natural world.
